This will be a special day to protect, celebrate and encourage the safe use of our beautiful Victoria Harbour. Victoria Harbour Celebration Society (VHCS), a group of human-powered advocates, will be hosting this first Celebrate Victoria Harbour event.
Learn about the diversity of healthy, inexpensive, environmentally-friendly recreational opportunities in this fun event. There will be gatherings on the WestSong Walkway at Lime Bay Park with displays from local paddling and rowing clubs and companies that operate in the harbour.
Fun citizen-class racing for kayaks, canoes and rowing craft will occur from 11:30 am to 2:00 pm. Paddlers and rowers in attendance will be invited to join in, simply for the fun of it. The start will take place at in front of the Royal Quays on the WestSong Walkway.
David Anderson, Olympic silver medalist rower and former Victoria MP, will address the gathering at 12:30 p.m on behalf of the VHCS. Mr. Anderson will also be on hand for press interviews.

Hundreds showed up to Support our Harbour Rally!
A crowd of about 1000 showed up on land and on water on Saturday, April 17th, for our Save The Harbour rally. The paddlers with their boats outlined the perimeter of the proposed marina demonstrating to all of us what a vast portion of our harbour we are at risk of losing.Photo Credit: Clare Morrison
For those on the walkway, it was a shock to see how far it would reach into the busy traffic lanes used by large ferries and sea planes. Over 600 people signed post cards to Minister Pat Bell at the rally. Scores of people left with stacks of post cards and pamphlets to distribute at work and among friends.

Times Colonist, April 7/09
